Nudge: the code moves look faithful and every caller I checked is updated, but this deletes the public modelopt.onnx.quantization.graph_utils module with no shim, no CHANGELOG entry, and an unanswered "backward compatible?" box.
Needs action:
- Add a
CHANGELOG.rst"Backward Breaking Changes" entry for the removal ofmodelopt.onnx.quantization.graph_utils, naming the new home of each moved symbol (precedent: the 0.45modelopt.torch.kernelsreorg), or keep a re-export shim for one release. - Answer the "Is this change backward compatible?" item in the PR body and say why no deprecation shim is warranted for an importable module.
- Explain the boundary choice in the PR body:
qdq_graph.pysits next to the existingqdq_utils.pyand also holds rewrites (remove_partial_input_qdq), whilegraph_selection.pyholds a runtime probe (get_extended_model_outputs) — confirm the four-way split is the intended long-term layout. - Add
insert_matmul_caststo__all__inmodelopt/onnx/quantization/graph_rewrites.py, or rename it private.
No action needed:
- The
graph-utils-moduleparam removal intest_calibrated_quantization.pyis justified: it was underxfail(strict=True)and would now XPASS; it is replaced by a directfind_spec is Noneassertion.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Do not remove graph outputs during iteration.
graph.outputs.remove(output_tensor) changes the collection that the loop is traversing. If two adjacent outputs are initializers, the second output shifts into the current position and the loop skips it. The remaining initializer output can still cause the runtime or conversion error that this function must prevent.
Iterate over a copy of graph.outputs.

Thanks. This is a valid issue in the pre-existing implementation, but it is not introduced by this PR: the same loop is present in graph_utils.py on the base commit. This PR intentionally performs a mechanical extraction with unchanged rewrite behavior, so I am deferring this behavior change to a focused follow-up with a regression test for adjacent initializer outputs.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
@ajrasane, thank you for the clarification. The defect predates this pull request, and the extraction preserves the existing behavior.
A focused follow-up with a regression test for adjacent initializer outputs is appropriate. Would you like me to open a GitHub issue for that follow-up?

Learning: In the ONNX quantization graph utility split, `modelopt/onnx/quantization/graph_rewrites.py::remove_output_initializers` intentionally preserves the behavior from the pre-existing `modelopt/onnx/quantization/graph_utils.py`. Fixes to its graph-output iteration behavior should be made in a focused follow-up with a regression test for adjacent initializer outputs.

Bot review (claude-opus-5) — DM the bot to share feedback.
Nudge: the two code-level concerns from the last review are fixed, but the design question I raised — why this particular four-way boundary — is still unanswered in the PR body, and this is a 25-file public-API split.
Needs action:
- Explain the module boundary in the PR body:
qdq_graph.pysits beside the existingqdq_utils.pyand also holds a rewrite (remove_partial_input_qdq), while the runtime probeget_extended_model_outputslives ingraph_selection.py. Confirm this is the intended long-term layout. - Answer the "Is this change backward compatible?" checkbox in the PR body and state that the
CHANGELOG.rstmigration map is the migration path, with no shim. - Confirm the three CodeRabbit findings in
graph_rewrites.py(mutatinggraph.outputsduring iteration, breakin the consumer-input loop, initializer fused when it has other consumers) are pre-existing behaviour carried over verbatim, and file a follow-up rather than fixing them in this move-only PR.
No action needed:
- ✔️ Resolved since the last review: the
CHANGELOG.rst"Backward Breaking Changes" entry with a per-symbol migration map, andinsert_matmul_castsadded tograph_rewrites.__all__. - Callers all resolve; no remaining
graph_utilsimports in the tree.

Bot review (claude-opus-5) — DM the bot to share feedback.
All prior concerns are now closed, so this is ready to merge pending a human sign-off on the size and public-API removal.
Needs action:
- Sign off as a human owner: 25 files / +2326 −2159 and the removal of the public
modelopt.onnx.quantization.graph_utilsmodule put this above bot-approval; the justified test edit (dropping thegraph-utils-modulexfail param, replaced by afind_spec is Noneassertion) also wants a human eye. - Open the promised follow-up issue(s) for the three pre-existing
graph_rewrites.pydefects so they aren't lost after merge.
No action needed:
- ✔️ Resolved since the last review: the three CodeRabbit
graph_rewrites.pyfindings are confirmed verbatim carryovers (author linked the base-commit lines; CodeRabbit withdrew them), the four-way boundary rationale is now in the PR body, and the backward-compatibility answer names theCHANGELOG.rstmigration map as the migration path with no shim.
What does this PR do?
Type of change: new feature
Splits the calibrated ONNX graph utilities into four cohesive capability owners:
graph_indexing.pyowns read-only graph indexing and pattern matching.graph_selection.pyowns calibrated placement decisions and the runtime probes needed to make those decisions;get_extended_model_outputsstays with selection for that reason.graph_rewrites.pyowns graph transformations that are independent of Q/DQ policy.qdq_graph.pyowns graph-level Q/DQ analysis and policy, including policy-specific rewrites such asremove_partial_input_qdq;qdq_utils.pyremains the lower-level Q/DQ node, tensor, and format utility layer. This four-way split is the intended long-term layout. All production and test callers now import the owning modules directly, and the former
graph_utils.pycatch-all module is removed. The extraction preserves the existing graph-selection and rewrite algorithms; all 43 moved functions were verified to have identical ASTs before and after the split.Usage
