Tested within MathNetDev, 07/27/18 @ 7:52am PDT. Group color was not preserved while switching between class and merged view within the 'normal' Merged View; however, I noticed that group color was preserved within Filtered Merged View, with one exception. Unchecking groups and then subsequently merging views results in a reassignment of colors to the checked groups, but then checking groups that were previously unchecked results in repeated group colors. Merging views seems to reassign group colors, regardless of what the class view looks like.

The following is a walkthrough of what I noticed (all of this took place within Filtered Merged View). In this example, there were 3 student groups: group 1 was 'plum', group 2 was 'mustard', group 3 was 'aqua' (for simplicity, I will abbreviate these as 1P, 2M, 3A). The format is: action taken (colors in either class view (CV) or filtered merged view (FMV)) [comments].

    1. Check all three groups (CV: 1P 2M 3A) [original color assignment]
    2. Merge views (FMV: 1P 2M 3A)
    3. Unmerge views (CV: 1P 2M 3A)
    4. Uncheck group 3 (CV: 1P 2M)
    5. Merge views (FMV: 1P 2M)
    6. Unmerge views (CV: 1P 2M)
    7. Check group 3 (CV: 1P 2M 3A)
    8. Uncheck group 2 (CV: 1P 3A)
    9. Merge views (FMV: 1P 3M) [color reassignment]
    10. Unmerge views (CV: 1P 3M) [color reassignment is preserved]
    11. Check group 2 (CV: 1P 2M 3M) [color repetition]
    12. Merge all three groups (FMV: 1P 2M 3A) [color reassignment back to original]
    13. Unmerge views (CV: 1P 2M 3A)
    14. Uncheck group 1 (CV: 2M 3A)
    15. Merge views (FMV: 2P 3M) [color reassignment]
    16. Unmerge views (CV: 2P 3M) [color reassignment is preserved]
    17. Check group 1 (CV: 1P 2P 3M) [color repetition]
    18. Merge all three groups (FMV: 1P 2M 3A) [color reassignment back to original]
    19. Unmerge views (CV: 1P 2M 3A)

Although this all took place with Filtered Merged View, I'm hoping it will help in figuring out how to fix 'normal' Merged View.

Tested within MathNetTest, 8/16/18 @ 5:12pm PDT. Colors stayed assigned to groups regardless of which groups were checked/unchecked (tested with 3 student groups). Colors were preserved between merging and unmerging. Colors were preserved in both 'Normal' Merged View and Filtered Merged View.

    Tested within MathNetDev, 8/16/18 @ 5:15pm PDT.
    (1) In 'Normal' Merged View, colors were not assigned to student groups at all, even after merging/unmerging. After merging, only the first checked group in the list was visible (e.g., if Groups 2 and 3 were checked, only Group 2 appeared in the Merged View). Futhermore, repeated merging/unmerging resulted in color changes to the first checked group (i.e., every time the view was merged, a new color was assigned to the first checked group).
    (2) In Filtered Merged View, the same issues as before (see my previous post) persisted, with the additional issue of only the first checked group appearing in Filtered Merged View (just like in Item 1 above).

The colors change after the first time, but not thereafter.
