Chats with image and no text error out

Whenever a user uploads an image, we should still enforce that they have text that they typed. Any amount of text is fine. But it can't just be image only.

Fixing image-only chat validation

Working on issue #229 to ensure chats with images require accompanying text.

Todo List:

• Explore codebase to understand chat/messaging structure
• Locate image upload and message submission logic
• Implement validation to require text when images are uploaded
• Test the validation works correctly
• Run formatting, linting, and build commands
• Commit and push changes
• Provide PR creation link

Changes made:

• Updated validation logic in handleSubmit function to require text when images are present
• Updated submit button disabled state to match validation
• Updated keyboard submission (Enter key) validation to be consistent

Current logic:

• Text only: ✅ allowed
• Document only: ✅ allowed
• Images + text: ✅ allowed
• Images only: ❌ blocked (this was the issue)

Testing completed: ✅ Format, lint, and build all passed successfully

Successfully implemented the fix! The validation now requires text when images are uploaded.

Changes made:

• Updated handleSubmit function validation logic (ChatBox.tsx:525)
• Updated submit button disabled state calculation (ChatBox.tsx:1003)
• Updated keyboard submission (Enter key) validation (ChatBox.tsx:589)
• New logic: const hasValidContent = hasImages ? hasText : hasText || hasDocument;

Testing completed: ✅ Format, lint, and build all passed successfully

Validation logic now:

• Text only: ✅ allowed
• Document only: ✅ allowed
• Images + text: ✅ allowed
• Images only: ❌ blocked (this was the issue that's now fixed)
