Interesting that you ran into this error; I just provisioned a new server a week ago using this recipe and had no issues. What OS are you using? |
This was on Ubuntu 12.04. |
Not able to reproduce this; I spun up a 12.04 instance yesterday and ran only the What else can you tell me about the circumstances that led to the error? Might any other cookbooks be interfering? |
Can you please check if a ruby*-dev package is already installed on that instance? chef_ruby was the only recipe I ran and this was with official Ubuntu AMI. |
Trying it again using ami-3fec7956 (from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/precise/release-20130124/) Will check for a ruby*-dev package after it's done. I used a t1.micro this time so it might take a bit. |
Chef-client completed successfully, and I have no ruby*-dev packages installed: $ dpkg --get-selections | grep ruby
$ # no output from previous commandWhat's the exact AMI you used? |
I was using ubuntu/images/ebs/ubuntu-precise-12.04-amd64-server-20130411.1 (ami-04ea7a3e) in ap-southeast-2. |
I can't get any ap-southeast-2 instances to work for some reason so I'm just going to merge this and move on with life =) . |

Thanks for the fix! |

Thanks for just doing that. It is strange that its not repeatable in some environments but I did hit it for sure in that one, cheers. |
