Before: there was no E2E coverage for the optional MCP server, the audit-syslog bridge, or the frp tunnel supervisor (spec 013 gaps G-13, G-14, G-15, G-18).

After: a new optional-components bucket runs TestOptionalComponents_Lifecycle on amd64 and arm64. On its own cluster, the test checks these in order:

  • disabled: the components are absent by default.
  • enable: a helm upgrade --reuse-values turns on the MCP server and the bridge.
  • mcp: initialize, tools/list, listing GameServers, and an error result for clusters.
  • syslog: an audit record reaches a socat syslog sink with APP-NAME gameplane-audit, and an unauthenticated POST to the bridge gets 401.
  • tunnel-frp: TunnelReady, the frps dashboard lists the proxy, frpc killed from a debug container comes back with 0 pod restarts.
  • core-unaffected: the GameServer reaches Running, and a viewer gets 403 on /admin/audit.

How: the test seeds two new fixtures, fixtures/syslog-sink.yaml (alpine/socat) and fixtures/frps.yaml (fatedier/frps v0.71.0, matching the frpc pin), both digest-pinned. The tunnel image is distroless, so the test kills frpc from an ephemeral busybox debug container running as uid 65532 that targets the tunnel container. The test logs in twice: one admin and one viewer.

Spec 013 tasks T045–T050, all ticked. tools/list returns seven tools, the six read tools plus propose_fix, and the test asserts all seven (valgul's "Expect seven" card). G-13, G-14, G-15 and G-18 are closed with green run https://github.com/GameplanePanel/Gameplane/actions/runs/38789759814 on both arches.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded end-to-end coverage for optional components, including MCP tools, audit-log delivery and access controls, tunnel recovery, and core game server behavior.
    • Added a dedicated optional-components test run for both amd64 and arm64 CI, with serial execution and extended timeouts.
    • Added checks that optional components are absent by default and that unauthenticated access is rejected.

Generated by Claude Code

Adds TestOptionalComponents_Lifecycle in its own optional-components
bucket: the MCP server, audit-syslog bridge and frp tunnel are absent by
default; after a helm upgrade the MCP server answers over stdio, audit
events reach a syslog collector, the frp tunnel survives frpc being
killed without a pod restart, and core features still work. Adds the
syslog sink and frps fixtures and wires the bucket into both e2e
matrices and the CI report (T045-T049).

Walkthrough

The pull request adds an E2E lifecycle test for optional components, FRPS and syslog fixtures, and a dedicated test bucket. CI runs the bucket on amd64 and arm64, and the coverage records mark four gaps closed.

Changes

Optional Components E2E

Layer / File(s) Summary
Fixtures and optional service checks
test/e2e/fixtures/frps.yaml, test/e2e/fixtures/syslog-sink.yaml, test/e2e/optional_components_e2e_test.go
The test sets up FRPS and syslog fixtures, enables MCP and the audit bridge, and checks MCP responses, audit delivery, and rejection of unauthenticated bridge requests.
FRP tunnel recovery and core checks
test/e2e/optional_components_e2e_test.go
The test checks tunnel readiness and proxy status, kills frpc through a debug container, and verifies recovery without a tunnel-container restart. It also checks GameServer readiness, heartbeat, and audit endpoint access control.
Bucket, CI, and coverage tracking
test/e2e/buckets.sh, .github/workflows/ci.yaml, specs/013-expand-test-coverage/coverage-gaps.md, specs/013-expand-test-coverage/tasks.md
The new bucket is available to the test runner and CI report parser. Both architecture matrices run it serially with configured timeouts. The task and coverage records are updated.

golangci-lint (contextcheck, noctx) flagged the derived timeout context
and the context-free HTTP requests. Use context.Background() like the
other lifecycle tests and build requests with NewRequestWithContext.

contextcheck treats a context captured by a t.Run closure as inherited,
so every helper that builds its own context was flagged. Each subtest
now creates its own context.Background(), as top-level e2e tests do.

The web check on 77dfed9 failed in src/components/modules/BuildModuleDialog.test.tsx > "displays image pinning validation status in step 2" (Test timed out in 5000ms).

This failure doesn't come from this PR. The PR changes only test/e2e/, test/e2e/fixtures/ and .github/workflows/ci.yaml, and no web code. The same web job passed on this PR's previous head, e84361e, and it is green on master. No fix for this timeout exists yet. I'll re-run the failed job once when the run finishes.

The bridge frames TCP syslog records with octet counting and no trailing
newline, and the container runtime only emits a log line once its newline
arrives, so the records never showed up in kubectl logs and the syslog
subtest timed out on both arches. socat now appends to /tmp/syslog.log and
the test reads it with kubectl exec. A timeout now also reports the API's
latest audit rows, its webhook log lines and the bridge's log.

The debug container's pkill exited 1 without logs. Run a small shell
script that prints the uid and process table and kills frpc by pidof,
wait for the container to finish, and fail with its logs on a non-zero
exit.

build e2e images (arm64) failed on bdbcb38 before any test ran: go mod download got stream error ... INTERNAL_ERROR from proxy.golang.org while fetching k8s.io/kube-openapi. That's a network error, not this PR's change. The amd64 image build and e2e optional-components / amd64 (kind) both passed on this commit. I've re-run the failed arm64 jobs once.

e2e-audit-webhook-auth Secret succeeds, and register cleanup to delete it only
when created by this test; preserve pre-existing Secrets when Create returns
AlreadyExists. Keep the Helm rollback and register cleanups in this order:
fixtures, conditional Secret deletion, then Helm rollback, so LIFO execution
restores Helm first.
- Around line 634-650: Update the `frpc` restart check to verify a new frps
session rather than relying on observing an offline state: record the proxy’s
non-empty `last_start_time` while online before killing `frpc`, then require it
to be online with a different start time afterward. Extend or replace
`ocFrpsProxyOnline` to expose the status and `last_start_time` from
`/api/proxy/tcp`, and use that result in both checks.
