How to focus cell in next row with inline editing

Hey,

I'm trying to use KeyTable in combination with Editor of DataTables.Net and inline editing. Thats working fine. With 'tab' key I can jump to next cell in row. At end of row it jumps to first cell on next row. So far so good.

For fast editing of one column I want to jump to cell in same column in next row. Normally this will be done with 'arrow down' key. But with focus in text input and inline editing the 'arrow down' key sets cursor to end of textfield and 'arrow up' to begin of text input. What can I do to set another key combination like ALT+arrow down or ALT+Tab or ENTER for jumping to next row?

Have you tried editOnFocus. If I've understood, that might do what you want? (go immediately into editing mode and select all of the text)?

You'd need to add that into the library code. There is no plugin architecture in KeyTable to support additional key combinations.

Ah! Sorry, I had misunderstood. Yes, when pressing return after editing in a spreadsheet it will take you to the next row down. That is not currently something that KeyTable does - the focus remains on the current cell.

It would certainly be possible to add that. This is the switch statement where that would need to be done. It would probably go behind a feature flag for the moment, since it is a change in behaviour. A major release could make that the default in future.

Hey @AllanJard, thx. Is there anything I can do for now? Perhaps hook on key event and shift focused cell manually?
Using ENTER can be a little bit ruff in behavior change. For me its fine to use and Ctrl + or Alt + combined key. This key could be configurable in future.

You could perhaps listen for submitComplete and in that use keys.move() to shift the focus down a row.

That would work is the most simplistic of tables which are only doing inline editing with KeyTable. If it needs to handle a modal create / delete then you'd need to check in submitComplete if you should be shifting the focus down or not. Tab would also be an issue, you need to know what the last key pressed was, so you'd need a listener for the keyboard to store the last key.

I think it would be possible, but there are edge cases to consider.
