Tab names

When I create a session, it creates a name for me, _e.g., w2-foo-bar. Using /rename (in Claude) changes the name of the session as far as Claude is concerned, but the tab still keeps the w2-foo-bar. When I create the session, it doesn't let me change the name either. Now I can click the "settings" for that tab and add a description. But then the tab is w2-foo-bar: Some description.

Is there a point in surfacing the w2-foo-bar when there is a description? If I really need it, I can always go to settings to see it. I just think it would be nice for the user to be able to a) control the text in the tab and b) keep it short.

Or am I missing something?

I was thinking about the same thing just today, so before you could change the name of the tab itself, now its kinda long but i personally like the number related to the project/case.
But I get it, thats too long for most usecases. I could implement a direct rename function and make the default spawn name configurable, either just the project name or the project name 1- oder w1- something like that. I could implement this into the App Settings, these I also need to cleanup ;-)

Note, I don't have an issue with the default names. I just want the ability to provide a description and then show only that.

That makes it simple then: when a description is set, the tab shows just the description, and the generated id stays in the tooltip and settings. Agreed, that's the right behavior, and it's a small change. The /rename note still applies for completeness: Claude's rename only affects the Claude conversation, Codeman never sees it.

Fixed and released in 1.14.2 (bec3da3). You were not missing anything, and both halves of what you asked for now hold.

On (b), keeping it short: a session with a description now shows just the description on the tab. The generated w<n>-<case> id moves to the tooltip and is still shown in the session settings modal, so it stays available without being read every time. Tabs without a description are unchanged.

On (a), controlling the text: that already exists and is not discoverable enough, which is worth fixing separately. Right-click a tab to rename it inline. The name you set is the description, so it becomes the whole tab label.

One accessibility note: aria-label deliberately keeps the full name, so screen readers still get the id even though it is no longer painted.

Your report also surfaced a second bug: the incremental tab update compared against the full name, which for a described tab never matched the displayed text, so those tabs re-rendered on every pass. That is fixed in the same commit.
