Configure AccessLens Discord Server and Update Documentation #19

Description

@4rokis

Description

Set up and configure the AccessTime Discord server with basic channel structure, roles, moderation aligned with the Code of Conduct, and essential integrations. Add documentation about how to join and participate in the community. This will serve as a baseline that will be expanded and improved over time.

User Story

As a user, contributor, or community member, I want a Discord server where I can get support, collaborate with other contributors, discuss the project, and stay updated on project activities so that I can engage with the AccessTime community effectively.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Discord server is created and configured with initial channel structure:
    • General discussion
    • Support/help
    • Bug reports
    • Feature requests
    • Announcements
    • Development/contributions
    • Off-topic
  • Role structure is established:
    • Admin
    • Maintainers
    • Community
  • Server rules are configured and aligned with project Code of Conduct
  • Integrations are set up:
    • GitHub PR notifications for Maintainers channel
    • RSS feed for new releases in Announcements channel
  • Documentation is updated to include:
    • How to join the Discord server (invite link)
    • Links to Discord from README.md
    • Links to Discord from documentation site
    • Brief description of Discord server purpose
  • Server welcome message/channel guides users to relevant channels and rules
  • Server icon and branding matches AccessLens project

Technical Requirements

  • Configure Discord server with appropriate permissions structure
  • Set up GitHub webhook or bot for PR notifications to maintainers channel
  • Configure RSS feed integration for release announcements
  • Ensure invite link is permanent or regenerated periodically
  • Set up channel descriptions and purposes within Discord
  • Configure role permissions appropriately (admin, maintainer, community access levels)

Additional Notes

  • This is version 1.0 - channel structure and organization will evolve based on community needs
  • Server rules should reference and align with CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md
  • Most server information (channel purposes, guidelines, FAQs) should live within Discord itself
  • Documentation should focus on how to join and why to join, not replicate Discord content
  • Primary purposes: community support, contributor collaboration, and user discussions
  • Consider adding a moderator role in future iterations as community grows
  • May add additional bots and integrations as needs emerge
