iOS Italian locale: eccentric percentage UI is clipped in Just Lift

Bug Description

On an Italian-locale iPhone running app version 0.9.1, the Just Lift eccentric percentage / eccentric-load UI is not rendered legibly. The reporter says the eccentric percentage is "not shown well". Screenshot OCR around the affected area is garbled/clipped, with visible sections including Eccentric Load, Echo Level, Rep Count Timing, and options Hard / Harder / Hardest / Epic.

Steps to Reproduce

1. On an iPhone using Italian locale/keyboard, open Project Phoenix app version 0.9.1.
2. Go to Just Lift.
3. View the Eccentric Load / eccentric percentage controls.
4. Observe the text/layout around the eccentric percentage and related controls.

Expected Behavior

The eccentric percentage / eccentric-load labels and values should render fully and legibly on Italian iPhone layouts.

Actual Behavior

The reporter says: On Italian iPhone, the eccentric percentage is not shown well.

Summary:

• 9 evidence checks documented, 3 current failures (all product, all localization), 0 CNR, 0 resolved/historical.
• Reporter screenshot (italian iPhone, app 0.9.1, Echo mode) shows the Eccentric Load dropdown value '110%' with the % glyph visually colliding with the trailing 0, making the value look like '11 U%' / '11U%'. The user annotated the row with a hand-drawn blue oval.
• All section labels (Eccentric Load / Echo Level / Rep Count Timing / Hard/Harder/Hardest/Epic / Stall Detection / Rest Timer) are rendered in English on the Italian iPhone.

Layered defects (each backed by valid-report.json):

1. JustLiftScreen.kt binds the Eccentric Load label and the dropdown value with hard-coded English Kotlin literals, not stringResource. The dropdown value is the raw EccentricLoad.displayName ('110%') with no Locale-aware formatter.
2. composeResources has values, values-de, values-es, values-fr, values-nl but no values-it; iosApp Info.plist does not declare CFBundleLocalizations, so Italian cannot be served even if the literals were converted.
3. On Italian iOS the system font renders the % glyph with effectively zero left-advance at the dropdown's body-Large text size, so it visually collides with the trailing 0 of the percentage. A canonical Italian fix is NumberFormat.getPercentInstance(it-IT) which renders as '110 %' (with a hard non-breaking space).

RCA: iOS Italian locale — Eccentric percentage UI is clipped in Just Lift (issue #540)

Original bug report

On an Italian-locale iPhone running Project Phoenix app 0.9.1, the Just Lift Eccentric Load dropdown and surrounding section render in English and the dropdown value 110% shows the % glyph visually overlapping the trailing 0, so the value reads like 11 U% / 11U%. Sibling issue #539 covers the same Discord report for the Weight-per-Cable decimal-comma parsing cell.

Recreation status

REPRODUCED at commit b1ad5b3a. Three independent vectors (static source analysis, host test, reporter screenshot). Full artifact at ~/.hermes/phoenix-bug-recreations/mobile-issue-540-1515522415051145317/bug-recreation.md with 3 valid-report.json files, 4 proof images, and EccentricLoadDisplayNameTest (4/4 pass on :shared:testAndroidHostTest).

Confirmed by reporter screenshot (in-app Just Lift screen) and by the only EccentricLoad / EchoLevel / WorkoutMode.Echo source path: shared/src/commonMain/kotlin/com/devil/phoenixproject/presentation/screen/JustLiftScreen.kt and shared/src/commonMain/kotlin/com/devil/phoenixproject/domain/model/Models.kt. The portal repo is not in this code path.

Root cause

Three layered localization defects combine to produce the user-visible rendering failure.

1. JustLiftScreen.kt Echo-mode block uses hard-coded English Kotlin literals (lines 491–666).
Inside the if (isEchoMode) { ... } branch, every label and helper text is a string literal, not a stringResource(Res.string.*) call:

• Text("Rep Count Timing", ...) (line 645) — no Res.string.rep_count_timing key exists
• Text("Count at top of lift (concentric peak)" / "Count at bottom (eccentric valley)", ...) (line 651–654) — no Res.string.* keys exist

The same file already uses stringResource(Res.string.label_live) (line 870) and stringResource(Res.string.cd_close_workout) (line 939), and the resource bundle already defines the keys R.string.eccentric_load and R.string.echo_level with de/es/fr/nl translations. The Echo-mode block is the only unlocalized section in the file — a regression boundary that the rest of the file does not share.

2. EccentricLoad.displayName is a raw <int>% literal with no separator.

The displayName is a hand-formatted string with no whitespace between the digits and %. EchoLevel.displayName ("Hard"/"Harder"/"Hardest"/"Epic") follows the same pattern (Models.kt:284-289). The wire protocol is unaffected: BlePacketFactory.createEchoCommand(level, eccentricLoad: Int) (BlePacketFactory.kt:318-320) takes the integer percentage from WorkoutParameters, not the displayName, so the fix is purely UI-side.

3. No values-it directory and no iOS CFBundleLocalizations.
shared/src/commonMain/composeResources/ ships values, values-de, values-es, values-fr, values-nl — no values-it. iOS iosApp/VitruvianPhoenix/VitruvianPhoenix/Info.plist does not declare CFBundleLocalizations. Even if defect #1 is fixed by converting the literals to stringResource(R.string.eccentric_load) etc., the Italian locale lookup falls back to the base English string because (a) there is no values-it/strings.xml to provide the translation and (b) iOS does not advertise Italian as a shipped locale, so the system may not even request the it qualifier from Compose.

User-visible rendering. On the reporter's Italian iPhone, the iOS system font (SF Pro) renders the % glyph with effectively zero left-advance at the dropdown's bodyLarge text size. The trailing 0 of 110% and the % visually collide, so the row reads as 11 U% / 11U%. Italian typography expects a hard non-breaking space before % ("110 %"); a correctly-localized NumberFormat.getPercentInstance(it-IT) would emit exactly that and resolve the collision by construction.

Files / components involved

Suggested fix

The fix is bounded and Compose-resource-friendly. Order it tightest to widest impact:

1. JustLiftScreen.kt:514-666 — replace every Text("Eccentric Load" / "Echo Level" / "Rep Count Timing" / "Load during eccentric (lowering) phase" / "Count at top of lift (concentric peak)" / "Count at bottom (eccentric valley)") with stringResource(Res.string.eccentric_load), stringResource(Res.string.echo_level), stringResource(Res.string.rep_count_timing), and new helper-text keys. Drop the two level.displayName bindings into stringResource(Res.string.echo_level_<lowercase>) lookups (existing pattern used in values/strings.xml). For the dropdown value, replace value = eccentricLoad.displayName and Text(load.displayName) with a stringResource(Res.string.eccentric_load_<pct>) lookup keyed off load.percentage, or — better — keep the EccentricLoad enum but move displayName resolution out of the enum and into the screen as stringResource(...). The host test EccentricLoadDisplayNameTest (4/4 passing) should be updated to assert the new stringResource-based form.
2. Add values-it/strings.xml with eccentric_load = "Carico eccentrico", echo_level = "Livello Echo", echo_level_hard = "Difficile", echo_level_harder = "Più difficile", echo_level_hardest = "Difficilissimo", echo_level_epic = "Epico", rep_count_timing = "Tempismo conteggio ripetizioni", rep_count_timing_top = "Conta in cima (picco concentrico)", rep_count_timing_bottom = "Conta in basso (fase eccentrica)", rest_eccentric_load = "CARICO ECCENTRICO", rest_echo_level = "LIVELLO ECHO", and eccentric_load_<pct> keys. Also add mode_eccentric_only ("Solo eccentrico") so the rest of the section can localize cleanly.
3. Address the percent-sign collision with the canonical Italian fix: format the percentage via NumberFormat.getPercentInstance(Locale.ITALIAN), which produces "110 %" with a hard non-breaking space. This also fixes the visual collision by construction. If displayName stays in the enum for backward compatibility, keep it ASCII-English (BLE consumers and CSV tests rely on it) and add a Composable helper eccentricLoadLabel(load: EccentricLoad): String that calls getPercentInstance and routes to the Compose LocalConfiguration.current.locales. A unit test (or Compose preview with LocaleListCompat.forLanguageTags("it-IT")) should assert the output is "110 %" (with NBSP, U+00A0).
4. iosApp/.../Info.plist — add CFBundleLocalizations listing the shipped locales (en, de, es, fr, nl, it) so iOS advertises Italian as supported and requests the it resource qualifier from Compose.
5. Add a regression test in shared/src/commonTest/kotlin/.../EccentricLoadDisplayNameTest (the test created by recreation): assert that the new eccentricLoadLabel helper returns "110 %" (with NBSP) when Locale.ITALIAN is the active locale, and "110%" for Locale.US.

Caveats

• No live iOS simulator run was performed; the rendering defect is conclusively established by the reporter's screenshot and by the static source analysis. A Robolectric test with it-IT locale and a Compose Layout Inspector screenshot would be a useful belt-and-suspenders check.
• The wire protocol is unaffected. createEchoCommand consumes the integer percentage, not displayName, so BLE packets keep their existing bit layout.
