Hi everyone,

Hello GitHub Education Community,

I am currently enrolled in an MSc Artificial Intelligence at the University of Kent. My academic email is added and verified, two-factor authentication is enabled, and my GitHub profile and billing name match my academic documents.

My first application was rejected because I had not used the device camera. I then reapplied using the device camera and submitted a clear photograph of my current University student ID, but the second application was rejected with only a generic link to the troubleshooting documentation.

My student ID confirms my name and university affiliation, but it may not show a sufficiently clear current enrolment date. I also have an official University of Kent Student Status Letter showing my programme, current enrolment status and programme dates.

What should I do to solve this problem? Looking forward to the positive response.

The likely issue is not your verified University of Kent email, but that the student ID does not clearly demonstrate your current enrollment period.

GitHub accepts other forms of academic evidence, including a class schedule, transcript, or an official affiliation or enrollment-verification letter. Since your University of Kent Student Status Letter includes your programme and current enrollment status, I would use that document instead of resubmitting the same student ID.

Before reapplying, make sure the evidence clearly shows:

Your full legal name
The complete University of Kent name or branding
Your current MSc programme
Confirmation that you are actively enrolled
A current academic term, issue date, or expected completion date
A clear and complete image without cropping, glare, or blurred text

Follow the device-camera process shown by the application, since the first rejection specifically mentioned that requirement. Also ensure that your GitHub profile name and billing name continue to match the document.

If another application is rejected, contact GitHub Education Support and include the exact rejection message, your verified university email domain, and the fact that you resubmitted using an official Student Status Letter with a visible current date.

Community members cannot conduct the verification themselves, but the official letter should be stronger evidence than an ID that lacks a current enrollment date.

It is still rejecting my application.

I reapplied using my phone’s live camera with an official University of Kent dated enrollment/status letter.

The document clearly shows my full legal name, University of Kent, current MSc Artificial Intelligence programme, issue date, start date, expected completion date, and confirmation that I am currently registered.

It says:

Since your university email is already verified, I think the problem is most likely the proof of current enrollment rather than your identity.

The Student Status Letter sounds like the strongest document you have because it clearly confirms that you're currently enrolled. Make sure the entire document is visible, easy to read, and includes your full name, the university name, the issue date, and your expected graduation date if available.

If your application is rejected again after submitting that letter through the device camera, I'd recommend opening a GitHub Education support ticket and mentioning that you've already followed all the troubleshooting steps. Hopefully they can review your application manually.

It looks like you've identified the most likely cause already. GitHub Education needs proof of current enrollment, not just proof that you're a student.

Your Student Status Letter is generally a stronger document than a student ID because it can clearly show:

• Your full legal name
• University of Kent name/logo
• Confirmation that you're currently enrolled
• Your degree programme (MSc Artificial Intelligence)
• An issue date or expected graduation date

When you reapply:

• Use the device camera (not an uploaded file, if prompted).
• Capture the entire document with no glare, blur, or cropped edges.
• Make sure your GitHub profile name matches the document.

If your application is still rejected after submitting the Student Status Letter, contact GitHub Education Support and explain that:

• Your university email is verified.
• Two-factor authentication is enabled.
• You followed the device-camera verification process.
• You submitted an official enrollment/status letter showing current enrollment.
