Unable to activate free Copilot Pro after Student Developer Pack was approved

I'm seeking some help with an issue regarding GitHub Copilot Pro.

My application for the Student Developer Pack was successfully approved more than 5 days ago. However, I am still unable to activate the free Copilot Pro subscription.

I have already followed the guides in the FAQ and checked the community discussions. When I go to the Copilot plans page, it only shows me the option to start a paid subscription, and it does not recognize my student eligibility for the free plan. I have also tried logging out, clearing my cache, and using a different browser, but the problem remains.

Has anyone else encountered this recently? Any advice on what I should do next would be greatly appreciated.

You've hit a common snag. It can take a few days for the free Copilot Pro benefit to activate after your Student Developer Pack is approved. Since it's been more than a few days, here's what to do:

Check the dedicated link: Sometimes, the special activation link in your welcome email works when the main page doesn't.

Contact GitHub Support: This is your best bet. Explain the situation, provide your username, and include screenshots of both your approved education pack page and the Copilot page asking for payment. They can manually activate it for you.

You can claim your Copilot PRO offer on this signup link.

To redeem others benefits, go to the pack offers page, scroll down to the "All offers" section and select any offer that suits you.

In case you encounter a problem claiming any offer, I recommend you raise a ticket here, select "I am a verified student having trouble redeeming my Global Campus offers" and explain your issue.

I ran into a similar delay when my Student Developer Pack was approved

A few things worth checking:

• Make sure your GitHub account still shows an active Student Developer Pack benefit.
• Visit the GitHub Education dashboard and confirm there are no pending verification steps.
• Check whether Copilot access has been enabled under your billing and Copilot settings.
• Sometimes the Copilot benefit can take several days after approval to fully propagate across GitHub services.

If everything looks correct and it's already been more than 5 days, I'd recommend opening a support ticket with GitHub Education and including screenshots of your approved student status and the Copilot plans page. They can verify whether the benefit was properly attached to your account

Your verification is fine — this is the platform-wide pause, not a problem with your account.

Since April 20, 2026, GitHub has temporarily paused all new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, and the Student plan. Because your pack was approved during this freeze, the student plan can't be applied yet, so you only see the paid option and stay on Copilot Free. It has nothing to do with your cache, browser, or eligibility — you've already done everything right.

There's no workaround: new activations are blocked until GitHub reopens sign-ups, and there's no public reopening date yet. The good part is that once the pause lifts, your Student Copilot should activate automatically since your pack is already verified.

While you wait, just confirm there's no account mismatch — the same GitHub account that holds your Student Pack should be the one signed into Copilot/VS Code, and your Copilot benefit should show as claimable on https://education.github.com/pack
